You may take AR tests during any of your classes - if time permits, but the best time would be during Rooster Time.
AR Points
- 10 per quarter = 40 per year
- This is half of your grade, so make sure you get all your points each quarter.
- You will keep an AR log and record each book you test on.
- Points do carry back at quarter, but not at semester.
- Points always carry forward.
- If you receive 30 points at first quarter, 60 at second, 90 at third, and 120 at fourth quarter, you will be invited to an AR party.
- The top 15 AR earners from 6A will be invited to go to the Children's Literature Festival at the end of the year where students will meet authors of the book they are reading.
Check out this site if you would like to help your child find success in picking out appropriate books to read for AR. It is a Sylvan site and very user friendly. Choose "Book Finder" and plug in your choices. Many students and parents have found this site helpful. http://www.bookadventure.com/
Birthday Parties
Please refer to the handbook for these activities. If you do choose to send something with your child we strongly suggest individually wrapped items that do not make a mess. These will need to be store bought treats. Do not send a large cookie or cakes that need to be cut and served. We have a very limited amount of time in 6th grade to have parties and there is no time for preparation. Plates and utensils are not stocked in the classroom either. You can order items off of the school web site, which is a great service and very convenient. http://www.pleasanthillschools.com/PRIMARYSCHOOL/Birthday%20Treat%20Flier.pdf We do enjoy your child being able to celebrate with their friends, but it needs to be within a reasonable amount of time and mess. Just imagine having a party at your house with 28 children!
